Scorpions Top Delmarva 36-0

Dean Richter had 11 tackles, Mike Perkins and Sid Lowe returned interceptions for touchdowns and Brandon Thomas recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown as the Sarasota Scorpions defense squashed the Delmarva Bayriders Saturday night en route to a 36-0 victory.
The Bayriders were held to only 87 yards of total offense and quarterback Julius Horton was kept in check as he was only able to complete 6 of 28 pass attempts for 55 yards. He also threw 4 interceptions.
Both teams played a very tough, close, hard hitting game. Sarasota got on the board just 1:51 into the game on the second play from scrimmage as James Friedman ran around the left corner for a 40 yard touchdown scamper to give the Scorpions a 6-0 lead.
Delmarva responded with a decent drive that was helped out with a penalty for a late hit. But on 4th down a heavily pressured Horton’s pass fell incomplete and the Scorpions took back possession. But the Bayriders showed they were not planning on rolling over so quickly as two plays later Millard Dawson’s pass was intercepted. Once again the defense held strong as Dean Richter came up with a big 4th down tackle that left the receiver just short of the first down marker.
With 4:26 left in the first half Delmarva was trying to tie the game as Horton saw an open receiver in the end zone. But when the pass was thrown Mike Perkins closed the gap, made the interception and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. James Friedman ran in the conversion and the Scorpions held a 14-0 lead at halftime.
DAWSON LEADS SCORPIONS INTO DELMARVA
The RIFL'S leading passer, Millard Dawson, takes his troops into Delaware this weekend for an important matchup between the undefeated Sarasota Scorpions (4-0), and the once beaten Delmarva Bayriders (3-1). The Bayriders only blemish came at the hands of the AIFA's defending Champion, the Reading Express in a very close game. The Scorpions have been destroying anyone that sets foot on the field with them, including a 70-0 victory a week ago. Dawson leads the league in passing yardage and touchdown passes and stands behind a very solid line that is determined not to let anyone get near their quarterback. Scorpions Head Coach Emory Coleman said "I hope people were paying attention last week up north. I was sending a message to other RIFL teams that we will not let up on the gas pedal." Delmarva's Shane Wooten responded "That's exactly what we want. We want their best. May the best team win. Bring it on!" Both teams also boast outstanding defenses with Sarasota posting shutouts in 3 of their 4 games. Can the Bayriders win this game? "Absolutely we can. If they think they are coming into our house and going to smack us around on our field....Well, let's just say, not gonna happen." said a Delmarva source. RIFL Commissioner Earl Christy is going to be in attendance for a special halftime ceremonial announcement.

On May 22, 2010 Delamarva's ONLY Professional football team the Bayriders took on the East Coast Executioners and came home with a well deserved win 48-16 pushing them to 3-0 on the 2010 campaign. Eventhough the Bayriders put up nearly 50 points the Bayrider's stingy defense is the talk of the locker room only giving up 16 points (6 of which came off a perfectly executed screen pass on the games first play from scrimmage) on the game and only 28 on tghe season. The defense stayed in the executioners backfield all night giving their offense no time to think. When the bayrider's offense stepped on the field they scored at will with a strong running game and a near flawless passing game. The Bayrider's take the field again against league powerhouse the Sarasota Scorpions on June 5,2010 who are also destroying opponents in route to the RIFL championship game.
